Scream - The Human Flytrap by Jack Heath
Published by Scholastic Australia
Josh, his parents and his sister Yvette move houses in Axe Falls. Axe Falls is a deadly and mysterious place and the house they move into is especially spooky-looking. Things go wrong, from the start. Josh sees unbelievable sightings like floating heads, crime scene tapes and hears weird and unknown sounds like scratching. But what frightens Josh the most in this spooky place is a woman. An old woman who says to him as they move in, “Get out of here. Get them all out! Or what happened to him will happen to you!”
Josh refuses to listen to a mad old woman speaking complete gibberish, so he continues his daily life, the mad woman’s speech still lingering at the back of his head.
As Josh and his friends fight for their lives against the most unexpected dangers, they must find a plan to escape before it is too late. Will they make it? Or will everything be gone before they can stop it?
“The human flytrap” was a fascinating read and had many useful, frightening effects. Even after reading the book, the slightest noise made me jump.
I would highly recommend this book to students aged 9- 12 years because they would enjoy the humorous adventure and know when the suspense is coming up.
It was so entertaining that it was impossible to put it down in the middle of a chapter. I like the way Jack Heath ended each chapter in suspense, so I couldn’t resist reading more.
Reading the first book of the Scream series, I have been convinced to read the rest of the series.
