Rafe’s Aussie Mis Adventure by James Patterson
Published by Random House Australia
When American middle school student Rafe Katchadorian wins a trip to Shark Bay, Australia in an art contest, he thinks he is very lucky. That is, until his mum insists on coming with him and he actually gets to experience “Australia”. (Which by the way, is definitely not the Australia I know!!!)
Rafe stays with the Mayor of Shark Bay, Biff Coogan, his wife Barb and their twins Brad and Belinda. Brad and Belinda are very mean to Rafe and don’t make him feel welcome. He starts to feel like the trip was a waste of time. He has to produce artwork for an exhibition but feels anything but creative.
Things change when he meets Ellie and the Outsiders who like making horror movies. Rafe becomes friends with the Outsiders and is helping them with a movie when Brad and Belinda and their group The Surf Gorillas come and wreck the whole thing.
Something has to be done…….but what?
When Rafe discovers Ellie’s animatronic Bunyip he has an idea for taking revenge on The Surf Gorillas……….
Will Rafe’s plan work?
Does he finish his artwork in time for the exhibition?
Does Rafe make it back to America without being eaten by a shark or attacked by a Drop Bear?
If you are curious and looking for a different way of seeing Australia, you should read this book.
For those who enjoy crazy-weird, funny and fast paced stories you will love it.
I recommend this book to boys 7-12 who like action-packed, humourous, and just plain crazy stories.
