'Hello! My name is Barnaby Station Stamp of Approval, but you can call me STAMP.
STAMP, James and Ace are in the tropical north of Australia, ready to enter the Great Atherton K9 Festival! But are those storm clouds on the horizon?
There's a cyclone coming! The whole town's been evacuated—or has it? Can Stamp and Ace find Imogen in time?'
Authors, Darrel and Sally Odgers have combined fact and fiction together in a fast moving chapter book written from the point of view of STAMP, a very smart a Border Collie. Storm Rescue is set in the far north of Queensland, Australia where the cyclone season looms from November through to April every year. While camping in the Atherton Tablelands to participate in a K9 Festival, Cyclone Julia returns to the coastline and crosses over onto the land, bringing with it the storm, massive winds and destruction. Throughout the page turning action, Darrel and Sally weave vital cyclone survival strategies that ensure the safety of the characters in the book. However, disaster occurs when STAMP's best friend, Ace goes missing after the category three cyclone has hit landfall.
STAMP is determined to find his best friend, and uses his keen sense of smell to track his friend down, only to find that Ace has been looking after a girl who went missing from the safe zone.
Through the terrifying moments of the storm though, comes the excitement of the arrival of a litter of pups. Darrel and Sally have included Stamp's Glossary at the end of each chapter, where dog behaviours are explained, and any unusual words used in that chapter are given extra information.
Illustrator, Janine Dawson has added a visual dimension to the story with fantastic illustrations of the characters and location. There are thirty-two drawings of the amazing Border Collie, STAMP placed throughout the book, including the book cover.
Pup Patrol - Storm Rescue, is a wonderful book to read as either shared reading, or as an independent reader. It is an informative fiction story that includes cyclone survival strategies, as well as the importance of looking out for others. But most of all, it gives the reader, child and adult alike, a warm heart hug, reminding them about dogs as best friends.
