The Witch's Britches by P. Crumble
Published by Scholastic Australia
This bright, starry, swirly Picture Book is a celebration of underwear, but not just any underwear; magical underwear- britches to be exact.
Ethel is very excited about receiving her underwear because despite what we have been led to believe, that, is really where magic comes from! Being a good little witch Ethel takes excellent care of her extra special garments, but the thieving wind has other plans for her knickers. Will Ethel ever get her magical britches back? There's only one way to find out. Pick up a copy of The Witch's Britches. It is full of fun and fantasy, especially the final climactic double-page spread where Ethel reaches the park in her search for her wayward undies.
P. Crumble's rhyme is easy to read, humorous and entertaining. I can see this being a frequently requested re-read in many homes, preschools, and K-2 classes. Lucinda Gifford's illustrations are delightfully bright, full of both colour and little surprises, making this a clever and funny read for adults, as well as the children they read to. The formatting of The Witch's Britches right from the end pages to the end of the story compliment P. crumble's words encouraging the reader to read on and have a ball. Bold letters, colorful letters and wind-blown text are just some of the features of this well-thought out Picture Book.
I would recommend The Witch's Britches for fun loving children from 4 to 100.
