ROAR! By by Julie Bayless
Published by Running Press
A moonlit tale of friendship and play.
It is night time in the Savannah, which means that it is time to play for one rambunctious lion cub! The cub tries to make new friends with the hippos and the giraffes, but roaring at them only chases them away. The young lion is about to give up, but when a rabbit accidentally mistakes the cub's tail for a carrot, the lion realizes she might have met her match, in all the right ways.
Everyone loves the cheekiness of baby animals, and the lion cub in ROAR! is certainly very cheeky as he tries to wake everyone in his lion family with his enormous ROAR! However, his ROAR! goes unnoticed as one would expect from this little pip-squeak's ROAR! So, he ventures beyond the family tree and into the wild where he comes across a herd of hippos and shocks them with his ROAR! Then manages to scatter a tower of giraffes with another seemingly loud ROAR! But little does he know that his ROAR! is about to become an almighty ROAR! with the bite of his tale from a very hungry bunny, which is the start of a wonderful friendship.
You will be delighted by the cub character created by author and illustrator, Julie Bayless. He is simply cute and loveable. ROAR! is a wonderful picture book to read out loud with crazy vocal expressions of the 47 words that accompany the beautiful illustrations of the cub's journey with his ROAR! Although ROAR! has few words, the effect opens the book up to the imagination of the reader, where anything is possible and vocabulary can be extended through descriptions of what is happening in the illustrations and beyond.
ROAR! is a fun book. I can guarantee that you will be left with a smile on your face and happiness in your heart after being absorbed by the illustrations and sharing the ROAR! with anyone around you, young or old.
