I'll Be There by Holly Goldberg Sloan
Published by Little Brown Books
When worlds collide only love can lead you home.
Emily and Sam are from different worlds and should never have even met, but they did and their meeting shakes up not only their lives, but the lives of everyone around them. Those they love and those they don't. Then there's Riddle, who is, just that. The combination of these three protagonists with several intriguing secondary characters make this heart wrenching, joy of a read so very difficult to put down.
The funky cover design is big and bold with the rustic heart shapes which are intimately related to the text. I wouldn't be surprised if those hearts were designed, made and photographed specifically for I'll Be There's dust jacket.
I would recommend I'll Be There for 12-15 year olds, although with Riddle, of the main characters being only 12 himself, some younger tweens may well enjoy it too. It is a coming of age YA novel which is just beautiful. Sam and Emily's sweet underlying romance is only one part of this incredible combination family drama and thriller. Holly Goldberg Sloan's third person omniscient narrative is chock full of suspense, fear and love. She uses this style to masterly portray how each of us affect the lives of everyone we meet, whether we are aware of it or not.
Goldberg Sloan's serendipitous novel weaves seemly unrelated characters and several separate climactic moments into the final breathtaking resolution.
