Fortune Cookie: The Chocolate Box by Cathy Cassidy
Published by Penguin Books Australia
As a reader, you dream about that book that you cannot put down. A storyline that has you hooked from the first few lines. If this sounds like the type of book you would like to read, than look no further.
Written by Cathy Cassidy, Fortune Cookie: The Chocolate Box Boy is the sixth and final installment in the Chocolate Box series.
The story begins as Jake leaves his home, never to return. In his pocket is a train ticket and a letter. This letter was written by his half-sister, someone that until recently he had no idea existed. He begins his journey to Tanglewood House to meet his new family. Jake has never met his father and he hopes that his half-sisters will help to introduce them to one another.
Upon arrival at Tanglewood House Jake finally meets Honey Tanberry, the avid writer who sent countless letters, begging him to visit. She introduces him to the remainder of the family and he is welcomed with open arms…despite the fact that they too did not know about the family connection! He develops a relationship with each of his half-sisters and slowly feels as though he has finally found a place where he belongs. Jake reaches out to his father, and during a Skype session they come face to face for the first time. The brief encounter did not go quite as expected and Jake is left feeling that all hope is lost.
Having not read the other books in the series, I enjoyed learning about the main characters alongside Jake. I was his companion whilst he met his newly found family. This is a lovely story and one of despair, hope, love and the true meaning of family.
I thoroughly enjoyed Fortune Cookie: The Chocolate Box Boy and have sought out the other books in the series as it left me wanting more!
