The Impossible Quest The Beast of Blackmoor Bog by Kate Forsyth
Published by Scholastic Australia
The third book in the epic series by Kate Forsyth, where Lord Mortlake’s army of indestructible and terrifying Bog-men have succeeded in storming Wolfhaven Castle and enslaving all of its occupants. However, Lady Elanor, daughter of Lord Wolfhaven, has managed to escape with her friends Sebastian, Tom and Quinn.
The children take refuge in the Witchwood before Elanor and Sebastian decide to bravely venture out to Crowthorne Castle to seek help from Lady Ravenna.
Sebastian gives Lady Ravenna his mysterious amber brooch in payment for a messenger to be sent to the King to ask for help, but Lady Ravenna, along with Wilda the witch, betray them both to Lady Mortlake.
With Sebastian’s help, Elanor manages to escape from Crowthorne Castle, but Sebastian is taken prisoner and flung into the dungeons where he is due to meet his doom with the Beast of Blackmoor Bog.
Tom and Quinn stayed behind in the Witchwood to guard the unicorn, the griffin, Fergus the wolfhound and a wolf cub named Wulfric. When Quinn sets out in search of food, she is deceived by the goose girl and ends up being captured and imprisoned by the Beast of Blackmoor Bog himself.
The highlight of the tale is when Quinn discovers her own magical powers, and when Sebastian realizes that his mysterious amber brooch is actually a dragon’s egg!
There are many twists and turns in this imaginative, action-packed and spell-binding tale of fantasy adventure, which will satisfy young thrill-seeking readers with its heroes and villains, mysteries and magic, horrendous bog creatures and witches, hairy monsters and fire-breathing dragons.
