Chook Chook - Saving the Farm by Wai Chim
Published by UQP
The final tale in the heart-warming Cook Chook series, about the life of a young Chinese girl and her two intelligent, performing chickens, named Little and Lo.
When a pompous city official arrives in Mei’s village to inform her stepfather and the whole community of the devastating news that their houses, farms and land are to be acquired by the ministry of Urban-Rural Development, Mei sets out to save the farm and the whole village.
Little did Mei know just how important a role her two performing chickens would play in the struggle, together with the old toy-maker, in persuading the stern and stuffy ministry to reconsider its plans for the modern redevelopment of their village.
There are several important messages in this charming tale, one of them being the importance of preserving your heritage. The other is having the courage to believe in yourself, and to stand your ground and speak out against injustice.
A beautiful and gentle story for younger readers.
