Time for Bed, Daddy by Dave Hackett
Published by UQP Press
Time for Bed, Daddy is the delightful new picture book from, Dave Hackett. Dave has both authored and illustrated this amusing spin on bedtime. Usually, it's the parents screaming it's time for bed, well it is in my house. This time it's Daddy who doesn't want to go to bed and his daughter is the one assuming the grown-ups role.
Daddy makes up the usual excuses, 'I'm still playing' as he dragged from his computer and off for a bath with little Miss demanding that 'Playtime's over, Daddy.' 'I don't neeeeeed a bath' he protests.
Making every effort to ease Daddy into helping with the bedtime routine, his daughter lovingly fills the bath with bubbles and the family favourite rubber duckie.
Daddy splashes about like a mischievous five-year-old with his duck and his toy boats. Little Miss helps Daddy into his PJ's and its giggles all round. Teeth cleaning and horsey rides before a loooong bathroom stop and then it's under the covers he goes. But first a quick monster check under the bed.
Yawning is a promising sign, but Daddy is still being uncooperative, so little Miss reads a bedtime story before they share a last sleepy time song. Soon Daddy is drifting off to noddy land. Or so little Miss thinks. Daddy has other ideas, and he needs just one more hug from his little pumpkin.
Dedicated to his daughter, Sami, Dave has portrayed the role reversal excellently with his comedic words and vibrant illustrations.
I adore the last illustration where little Miss is passed out on the lounge after all her hard work.
This is an entertaining story for reluctant sleepers both BIG and small. Sweet dreams.
