Zoo Train By Sally Sutton
Published by Walker Books Australia
Jump on board the zoo train on its meandering path past all the animals - but watch out for the cheeky chimps!
This story has a nice balance: Children will delight in spotting the cheeky monkeys sneakily steal the boy’s belongings on the outbound train trip, and on the journey back they will giggle at where the belongings end up.
The rhyming text is in big, easy to read font in a swooping pattern implying movement and each line is interspersed with sound words echoing the sound of the train -great to read aloud and for children to read along.
The illustrations have plenty of visual appeal with big pictures in bold colours that will entice the very young child.
The end papers have a map of the zoo train’s journey so children can follow the path after they’ve read the story.
With rhythmic, rhyming text, bold illustrations and a combination of animals and a train, Zoo Train is pitched perfectly for the 2 -6 year old market.
