Ariel’s Charm by Marnie Lester
Published by JoJo Publishing
A thirteen year old girl lives in an orphanage and has only seen things within her cruel world. Her name is Ariel.
One day, in the street below her window, she spots an old man who moves into a nearby cottage. As she approaches him while the orphans are allowed outside, the man, Reynaldo, talks to Ariel as if he has known her for years. Reynaldo provides information to Ariel about her parents and her home place - Walhalla. Soon Ariel decides that her best option is to leave for Walhalla.
There is evil on Walhalla, as a bad tempered man named Largo wants to take over the throne. How will Ariel stop him? Will peace be restored to Walhalla?
I enjoyed this book so much it would be in my top five favourite reads. I would very highly recommend it. I think girls aged 10 to 18 years would most enjoy this book. This will appeal to young adults who like fantasy and adventure.
I like the way the author describes a fantasy land and the creatures that live in it. I love how the suspense is built up in the story and the level of detail in the description of characters, settings and objects.
Most books are written to be realistic, but this is very imaginative. This book uses great imagery, and emotions are expressed in a way that makes me feel like the character. I feel so hooked into the story that I want to find out what happens next and read the next book in the series, if there is one.
