The Worm Who Knew Karate! By Jill Lever
Published by Penguin Books Australia
Brian was a happy worm. He lived in a beautiful window box and didn't have a care in the world. Alarm bells right.
Who would have thought watching a man putting up a poster about a sale would invoke sheer terror. As his eyes skimmed the words 'the early bird catches the worm' Brian freaked out. Yikes!!!!
Going into hiding just wasn't going to work, he enjoyed his window box in the sun too much for that. Brian needed to come up with a plan and fast. So he headed off for the city, and there he found the answer to his predicament...karate!
He proudly wiggled up to the teacher and demanded to be taught karate, after all this was an emergency.
Unfortunately, it wasn't as easy as he thought you know because of the no legs and arms but although he was down he wasn't going to give up.
This is an exceptional first picture book from Jill Lever and pairing with the award-winning long-time favourite Terry Denton will ensure it is a hit with both boys and girls.
Jill’s playful words create a story that children are not only reading but are right there experiencing Brian’s roller coaster of emotions.
Terry’s lively illustrations are fun and capture the heart of the story. When we chatted with Terry in April, he gave us a sneak peak of an illustration from The Worm, who knew karate. Little did we know what havoc that little blue bird would create.
Next time you are visiting the local Dojo be careful where you tread cause their might just be a worm or two in attendance.
This is one worm on a mission story you will not want to miss.
