Those Pesky Rabbits by Ciara Flood
Published by Koala Books
Bear lived alone in the middle of nowhere and that is just the way he liked it. When a family of rabbits builds a house nearby, Bear is not impressed.
The first knock at the door, of course, the rabbits want honey. Bear grumbles and sends them on their way, saying he doesn’t have any, when he really does.
The second knock, the rabbits want help chopping fire wood. Bear grumbles and sends them on their way once again, when his living room is full of chopped wood.
Third knock, the rabbits want to swap books, fifth knock the rabbits invite him to watch the stars.
Bear shouts he wants to be left alone. And so he is, until a soft knock at the door. He opens it to find a basket full of goodies and a note from the rabbits. They thought that bear didn’t have any of those things, so they provided them for him.
For the first time that night, bear felt lonely, so he did something he had never done before. He went to visit his neighbours.
He spent along of time with the rabbits after that, and it was just the way he liked it.
This is a sweet story, with a lovely message about learning to accept others who may not seem to be your cup of tea. Subtly done with awesome illustrations, my 4 year old absolutely adored this book.
