Teddy Took The Train by Nicki Greenburg
Published by Allen and Unwin
Teddy Took the Train is a story about a bushy haired, spirited young child named "Dot". With her devoted Mother (and Dot's Teddy) they go by train to visit the market. There are exciting things to see when they arrive; i.e the scent of fresh produce and coffee, Dot's joy at spending time with her Mum and the sight of people happily interacting as they go about their business.
After the market, Dot, her Mother and Teddy take the train ride home. Dot becomes distracted when she realises that 'Teddy' is no longer with her. Panic! But Dot's emotions positively blossom into imaginary places where Teddy has continued the train ride to!
This book is delightful; the visual illustrations evoke kind emotions i.e love and bravery. The innocence of losing a loved Teddy and wishing that Teddy is happy on some adventure (while inwardly hoping after the adventure Teddy will be back home where he belongs).
The Illustrations are quirky, smart, funny, the words and drawings complement each other. When reading "Teddy Takes the Train" I discovered some messages : 1) Good people will help others in need.. 2) Not all Teddy's are lost, sometimes they go on adventures, just like humans do. 3) Teddy bears are important to everyone!. Adults love them too! 4) Lost Teddy's are smart!. 5) Every Teddy has their own personality that shine to all who come to know them!
