CKT's Book Reviewers

Georgie Donaghey

Georgie Donaghey

As an emerging author, the first thing you hear from published authors is READ, READ, READ. It's wonderful to be able to read new work from Australian Authors and introduce them to you.

There is no greater adventure than that of the written word. I hope you enjoy my reviews and support our home grown authors by buying their books and sharing them with your loved ones.

Melinda McNaughton

Melinda McNaughton

Melinda is a librarian and her passion for children’s and YA literature has allowed her to be the Team Leader - Children & Youth at her local library for the past 16 years. She is often known to dress in character and help bring books to life. Melinda reads as widely as she can so she can try and match the right book to the library customer.

Allie Mokany

Allie Mokany

I grew up in the greatest place on earth, in the Royal National Park in Sydney, Australia. Our house was perched on the top of a cliff, and surrounded by frogs, lizards and snakes. I went on to study ecology at university and published several scientific articles as part of my doctorate.

Leonie Cheetham

Leonie Cheetham

Hello! I’m an emerging writer/illustrator, book lover, arty gal, aspiring photographer and traveller, who loves the magic of words and pictures to tell a story which transports you to another place or conjures up some new imaginary friends. I’m also a fitness trainer who believes in the importance of daily training, whether it is physical or mental. Hence, you may find me running along a beach, my head in a book or a brush in my hand on any day you choose.

Lynette Duffy

Lynette Duffy

My name is Lynette Duffy. I am an Author of children’s books & cookbooks.

In my early years I was one of those passionate children who could read almost from the first time I picked up a book. I was horrible at maths though which is usually the case. I would hanker for any time I might get free, so I could read.

Brydie Wright

Brydie Wright

Brydie Wright is a working mother, wife and budding children's author, embarking on her first self-publishing project. Three years ago a little boy came into her world and turned an otherwise ordered life on its head. Having taught her to expect the unexpected, her son sparked an imagination that had long laid dormant.

Linda Morse

Linda Morse

As a child, I always had my head in a book. They were my friends and I was at home in the worlds of imagination and magic. As a Mum, I read to my children and then my grandchildren, so they could also experience the wonderful word of words.

Kelly McDonald

Kelly McDonald

I'm Kelly McDonald and very pleased to be a reviewer for Creative Kids Tales.

I have always loved to read, and have been writing stories since primary school. I have worked in the kinder and childcare industry for the past 25 years, but accidentally became a fairy 17 years ago. This wonderful job has allowed me to spread my magic and stories all around Australia and even parts of Europe.

Artelle Lenthall

Artelle Lenthall

I have always loved the magic of words on a page and the wonderful places that they can take us. As a teacher it's always terrific to witness a book being the talk of the playground!

Julie Anne Grasso

Julie Anne Grasso

Julie Anne Grasso is an independent author with a background in paediatric nursing. She spent many years literally wrapping children in cotton wool. Every day she witnessed great courage from the tiny people she cared for, which inspired her to write stories about a little elf just like them.

Debra Tidball

Debra Tidball

I’m a big kid at heart and have never stopped playing - somewhere along the way words and ideas took over my play space from toys and games (but not completely!). As much as I love playing and creating in this writing space, I love seeing how others play here too – so I can hardly wait to rip open each package of books to review, delve inside the cover to discover what’s at the heart of each book and share it here for you.

Paula Hayes

Paula Hayes

My name is Paula Hayes and I love reading and writing. I enjoy reading to kids and listening to kids read. In a parallel universe I was an English teacher but for a long time have been a mum with four kids, seven rabbits and three dogs (better mention the goldfish, don’t want to put their noses out of joint … they are quite sensitive.)

Stacey Gladman

Stacey Gladman

Reading and writing is something that is both a career and a passion for me. I'm a journalist by day and an avid reader by night. Reading is something that gives me great pleasure and I love the experience of finding a book I just can't bear to put down and leaves me wanting more.

Michele Furlong-Olsen

Michele Furlong-Olsen

Being a book reviewer for CKT is an exciting adventure! I’ve only recently started to re-explore my creative interest in painting and writing and I am working towards having my own creation published one day (lots of learning and perseverance).

Julieann Wallace

Julieann Wallace

Julieann is a book spy, eager to hunt down words that sing to her heart, challenge her thoughts and inspire her to change the way that she looks at people, animals, the environment and life.

Lesley Reed

Lesley Reed

After the successful completion in 2008 of a course in writing children’s stories through Adelaide TAFE: Centre for The Arts I couldn’t wait to launch into children’s stories, a major shift from my previous forays into writing for adults.

Lee Foyster

Lee Foyster

I am a Children's and Youth Services Librarian in a public library and read hundreds of picture books to children every year. I love reading out loud and bringing the book alive with different voices, facial expressions and puppets.

Lisa Haynes

Lisa Haynes

My name is Lisa, I have a Certificate 3 Teacher Aid, Primary, I and have worked in Child Care. I love reading children's books especially to my son.

Jeffery E Doherty

Jeffery E Doherty

I make up stuff, I’m arty and I’m a bit of a nerd.

I love telling stories. One of those stories starts with "No, when I was in the Wiggles they already had a Jeff so I had to use my middle name..." Whole bunches of kids at the school where I work believe I was once Eddie the Evil Wiggle.

Book Review Information

All book reviews for Creative Kids Tales are done by volunteers.

Creative Kids Tales and their reviewers receive no financial gain from the author, publisher or agent for their reviews.

Books reviewed are supplied by the publisher or author. After review a small number of books are used as prizes or giveaways via the Creative Kids Tales website. The majority of books we receive and review are donated to schools or children’s charities.

Reviews are an honest opinion of the books read by our reviewers, however we will not publish reviews that defame authors or illustrators.

  • 'If there's anything emerging authors struggle with (beyond the dreaded writer's block), it's receiving recognition or even acknowledgment of their work – battling for a slice of that incredibly elusive publishing pie. Georgie Donaghey has created a priceless promotional and networking station that allows new authors to not only share their work, but gain the courage and nous to take their work to a whole new level. Creative Kids Tales is a valuable addition to Australia's burgeoning children's book market.' - www.taniamccartney.com

  • 'The long-distance marathon of writing, illustrating and publishing usually begins along a very foggy road, in the dark, shoeless. But wait! What's that light on the horizon? A glowing little cafe, full of a bunch other runners plotting out mud-maps on napkins and exchanging anecdotes, warning about ditches and praising short-cuts. Stop for a while, have a cup of tea, maybe even a shoe-fitting, then get yourself back on the road for the long slog to sunrise.' - www.shauntan.net

  • 'I stumbled on to Creative Kids Tales by accident. I thought it was kid's tails. I'd been doing some research about goats and how their tails were actually a fifth leg, a very long time ago. Or did I just dream that? In any case, I was bitterly disappointed at first to find not tails, but tales. However, while I was at the site I had a wander around, and soon discovered that it was even better than a goat's site - no kidding! This is a brilliant haven for writers, new and not so new; a place to showcase their work and to learn from others.' Well done, Georgie. You've done a fantastic job. - www.enterprisingwords.com.au
